The Southern Texas Archaeological Association is a non-profit group of avocational and professional archaeologists founded in 1974 and dedicated to the study, reporting, recording, promotion, and conservation of both prehistoric and historic archaeological sites in South Texas. The purpose of the STAA Field School Scholarship is to encourage and support undergraduate and graduate field school studies in Texas Archaeology. The award is open to any student enrolled in any public or private university (regardless of location – state, national or international) provided that the student is participating in a field school within the geographic boundaries of the State of Texas. Fieldwork participation includes, but is not limited to, excavation, survey, lab work, conservation, drafting and other forms of documentation performed in the context of an active field project. It does not include field work lasting two weeks or less. There is a single $1,000 Scholarship for 2015 and award criteria are based on demonstrated interest and ability, the opinion of references provided, and upon the statement of interest provided by the applicant.

ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE SENT VIA E-MAIL ALONG WITH ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS. A single pdf is acceptable. No mailed applications will be accepted. DEADLINE is MIDNIGHT, April 10, 2015. Once your application has been received, you will receive an email message confirming your submission and whether or not it is complete and eligible for consideration. Incomplete or ineligible applications will be returned and not considered for award.
The award announcement will be made no later than April 24, 2015. Funds will be awarded no later than May 15, 2015 and contingent on verification of participation in a Texas Field School. All scholarship applicants will be notified of the award decision of the STAA Board.
